An acolyte is a young man or woman, usually 10 years and older, who helps with our worship services. The duties of an acolyte are: Show up at least 15 minutes before the service, to set an example of what a responsible person does. (This will also help the Elder on duty to be a little less nervous about who will be the acolyte for the day!) Light the altar candles at the beginning of the worship service. Be sure to check with the Elder on duty or with Pastor as to when to light the candles. For Holy Communion, serve up front with the Elder on duty to collect the empty communion cups. Extinguish the candles at the end of the service.
If enough people agree to serve, you would only need to serve roughly four times per year. When you sign up to be an acolyte your parents or guardians sign a form, too, so they are aware of the duties as well, and their responsibility to get you to church on time. |
